What is the LMN?

The Lloyd’s Military Network (LMN) has a constitution based around three key tenants:


The Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund and the Royal British Legion Lloyd’s and City of London branch are our focus for charitable co-ordination


Providing a forum for the ex-military and serving reservists operating within the Insurance industry to meet and share ideas


Assisting those looking to transition into the Insurance industry by providing a platform for them to gain advice, experience and direction

Our mission is to enable ex military and serving reservist personnel to realise their full potential. Our commitment is to bridge the knowledge and experience gap for individuals leaving the military who have an active interest in employment in the insurance industry. We deliver on that commitment by assisting in the transition of military personnel. The LMN placement programme is the first internship programme of its kind specifically focussed on providing many employers with recognised ex-military talent who enhance and become an asset to all participating sponsors

Marketing Operations Manager – JLT Specialty Ltd

After successfully completing the LMN internship programme in April 2016 undertaking two placements lasting 10 weeks in total with Marsh and Liberty Mutual, Richard was recruited as a Marketing Operations Manager working for JLT Specialty. Richard is responsible for managing a small team of bid managers delivering of all aspects of Marketing including planning and managing to tight timescales and key milestones, managing the project resource allocation, constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.

Producer – Risk Solutions, Lockton LLP

Greg completed the first half of the LMN internship programme in Oct 2016 at Lockton LLP within the Property & Casualty Retail team of Brokers, whereupon he was offered a role to train as a Producing-Broker (a client-facing business development role) before moving onto a second placement. Greg works with a team of more experienced and senior partners as well as developing his own contacts and prospective clients. Greg works alongside colleagues across broking specialties and project managers across all aspects of potential new business development, which includes responding to RFPs and referrals as well as nurturing new relationships; all of which requires internal stakeholder management, managing timescales and resources, as well as assessing the nature of investment for all opportunities.

Working in London Insurance Markets was of great interest, because it addresses the safeguarding of personnel and assets, a theme to my working life. I did a month with a broker, Willis Towers Watson, a month with Beazley was planned to get insight to underwriting. The programme allowed me to network with many people and to find out more about what they did, often it was in fascinating niche markets. I tried to study and answer my own questions about insurance too. If there were outstanding things to ask the next day my mentors were very good and filled in the remaining blanks for me. I now help to win business, working with teams of brokers to describe how we will best safeguard major projects and operational assets worldwide for clients in Construction, Project Risks and Real Estate.

Global Head of Facultative - Willis Towers Watson

Toby has been at Willis Towers Watson for 17 years and is the Global Head of Facultative, with responsibility for leading our facultative business worldwide.
Toby started his insurance career with Willis in Global Markets International, which provides property and casualty solutions for large and complex risks to its network of international businesses. He rose rapidly through the ranks in under nine years from property broker to Chief Operating Officer. In 2009, Toby broadened his experience by moving to work in the Office of the Chairman directly under the Chairman & CEO, Joe Plumeri and Group President, Grahame Millwater.
In May 2010 he returned to GMI as Managing Director and was appointed its CEO in January 2011. He added to his responsibilities the leadership of Willis's North American wholesale operation based in London and Bermuda in June 2011.
In April 2013 Toby moved to Willis International where he was appointed CEO Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa working directly under Tim Wright, CEO Willis International.
In August 2015, after the announcement of the merger with Towers Watson, Toby was appointed as the Global Head of Broking for the combined Group.

Head of Business Development - JLT Specialty

Hamish began his career at CT Bowring in 1984 and joined Johnson & Higgins in their new London 'start-up' company and began working in their energy department on downstream business emanating from J&H World Wide Network. It was there that Hamish began to specialise in Power Utility Business.
In 1997 Marsh purchased J&H and Hamish, along with his team were transferred into the Global Broking Company. In 2001 he was promoted to Managing Director and Head of Placement worldwide for Power and Utility business.
In 2004 Hamish joined JLT to head up their Power activity. He built a team handling Global Retail and Wholesale business. Hamish was promoted to head the group’s Energy team, including power in 2007.
In 2008 he joined Aon as CEO of their Global Power business and built their team to over 200 people globally.
Hamish joined JLT Specialty in April 2014 as Business Development Director. He works with all the Specialty divisions, Energy, Construction, Real Estate, Financial and Professional Risks, Risk Practice, Marine, Credit and Political Risk and Aviation.
Hamish has extensive experience in Power, Renewables and Offshore Wind business.
